Visit to the ELTE Botanical Gardens

We are planning a morning stroll through the Elte Botanical Gardens (locally known as the Füvészkert). The Füvészkert, Hungary’s oldest botanical garden, serves as a peaceful, green sanctuary in District VIII of Budapest. It was founded in 1771 by the Faculty of Medicine at what is now Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE). Today the garden spans a compact area of roughly 3 to 3.5 hectares (part of a historic 10-hectare park) and houses over 8,000 plant species and varieties, featuring outdoor arboretums, cacti, orchids, and historic greenhouses. The key highlights of the Botanical Gardens are:

• The Palm House: A historic 1865 tropical glasshouse filled with exotic palms and giant vegetation.
• Victoria House: Home to giant Amazonian water lilies (Victoria amazonica) with massive floating pads.
• Special Features: Includes a century-old ginkgo tree and a famous annual Sakura (cherry blossom) festival in the spring.
