SUMMARY:Visit to Aquincum and Coffee & Chat
DESCRIPTION:Due to popular demand\, we will visit the fascinating archaeological park of Aquincum. Aquincum was a significant Roman city located in the Pannonia province\, which is now part of Budapest. After the Romans defeated a Celtic tribe that had inhabited the area since 400 B.C.\, the city was founded. In the late nineteenth century\, the ruins of the ancient Roman city were discovered\, and it is now one of Hungary’s largest archaeological sites. Aquincum was reconstructed between 1960 and 1970\, and it was primarily built between the second and third centuries. Although Aquincum was much more extensive than what we can see today\, only a third of the city center has been excavated. Our plan is to explore the park\, learn about Hungary’s hidden Roman heritage\, and then enjoy some refreshments nearby. \n\n\n\nFor more details see the NAWA members Announcements or contact nawamembership@gmail.com

DESCRIPTION:In Hungary\, Ödön Lechner\, a renowned Art Nouveau architect\, designed a stunning church located in the 10th district. During the late 19th and early 20th century\, Hungarian architecture flourished and Lechner aimed to create a distinctive and culturally significant style. His designs incorporated folk patterns and his architectural talent is evident in the unique and beautiful buildings he created\, which are representative of the Art Nouveau era in Hungary. One of his most notable works is the Szent Laszlo Church\, constructed between 1891 and 1897 in Köbanya. During our visit\, we’ll also take a walk to the Szent László Gimnázium\, a high school designed by Lechner during a later period (1914-15). After admiring these magnificent buildings\, we’ll head to Budapest’s Chinatown for lunch\, which is a short tram ride away. SUMMARY:Adopt a Granny - Craft and Bingo!
DESCRIPTION:Join us for our first Adopt-A-Granny event of the season at the St. Miklos School and Orphanage. This activity brings together special children from the orphanage and their adoptive grandparents from seniors’ homes we support. It is one of our most heartwarming and rewarding charity activities. If the weather permits\, we will play some outdoor games in the schoolyard and then have a game of Bingo with prizes provided by NAWA. It will be a fun event\, and you don’t need to speak Hungarian to engage with the participants and help them play and win. So\, don’t be shy\, come and join us! The orphanage staff is also working on building a pinata for the children to smash at the end of the games.
