DESCRIPTION:We will be discussing Cloud Cuckoo Land by Anthony Doerr. The novel centers around an Ancient Greek codex that links characters from 15th C. Constantinople\, present-day Idaho\, and a 22nd C starship.  It has won multiple awards\, too many to list here\, and has been noted by Oprah\, Barack Obama\, NPR\, the NYT\, etc.  The NYT review of books describes it as “a wildly inventive novel that teems with life\, straddles an enormous range of experience and learning\, and embodies the storytelling gifts that it celebrates… a humane and uplifting book for adults that’s infused with the magic of childhood reading experiences.” How could you not want to immerse yourself in this book as our days draw shorter?For more details see the NAWA members Announcements or contact nawamembership@gmail.com

DESCRIPTION:Don your Santa hat or festive accessories as we’ll allow our inner elves to shine through at our November general meeting. \n\n\n\nThis year we will also be crafting a tree ornament as part of our gift for the seniors\, so we’ll need “all hands on deck” to help us make nearly 200 ornaments and then pack nearly 300 gift bags. \n\n\n\nWe will prepare these to be given on December 6th Mikulás Nap (St. Nicholas Day)  \n\n\n\nAccording to tradition\, children of all ages shine their shoes and place them in front of the window the evening before. The next morning\, the children hurry to see what Mikulás brought them. SUMMARY:Felting with Selma
DESCRIPTION:Selma will teach us the ancient craft of felting (well known in North America). Although it takes a lot of energy\, by the end you have a beautiful handmade fabric and article to wear during the colder winter months. Last year her group made a cowl neck (head and neck warmer because it is versatile and useful but she will offer other possibilities as well. The wool/silk is of the best quality.
