SUMMARY:City Park Millennium House Walk
DESCRIPTION:Originally constructed for the 1885 National General Exhibition to showcase fine art\, the Olof Palme House was highly praised for its colourfulness\, thanks to its unique Zsolnay porcelain decorations on the façade. The restoration of the building is now complete to include the original extensions to the building which were demolished during the many years of neglect. The roof has been revamped with huge glass surfaces and the vibrant Zsolnay tiles have also been restored. Presently there is a temporary exhibition about the heyday of City Park\, as well as a permanent display presenting Belle-Époque Budapest. It is an interactive exhibition for people to step back in time to see how it was at the turn of the century to ride a tram along Andrassy út\, walk in and around city park and see how people lived during this time. There is also a short film of how the park is being restored.  We are planning to visit this exhibit on Tuesday\, December 17 at 11 am.

DESCRIPTION:We will do a walking tour of  Gül Baba’s Tomb. Gül Baba was a Muslim dervish and member of the Bektás Order who accompanied the Ottoman army during their European military campaigns. He died 2 days after the capture of Buda in 1541. After his death\, Gül Baba was declared as the patron saint of Buda and the monument on his tomb was built between 1543 and 1548. \n\n\n\nWe will meet at 10.00 and walk over to the tomb\, then we can go for lunch around 12 pm. To make this a more meaningful experience\, one of our members is happy to guide us through the museum and answer any questions we may have about the Muslim culture/religion. \n\n\n\nJoin us!
