DESCRIPTION:The Cogwheel Railway (Fogaskerek?)\, or tram line number 60\, is among Budapest’s unique historic public transport options. The line first opened in 1874\, and its red carriages\, today a nostalgic sight amid the Buda scenery\, have been transporting passengers ever since. It runs from Városmajor park up to Széchenyi Hill\, through Svábhegy. We will only need an ordinary ticket or pass to ride it\, and it provides easy access to popular attractions such as Normafa and the Children’s Railway. We will sit back and enjoy the beautiful views of the Buda Hills and stop for a Coffee\, Tea or Lemonade. After our break\, we will ride the cogwheel back down. DESCRIPTION: Join us for a train ride in the Buda hills. \n\n\n\nThe Children’s Railway is like any other railway. It has ticket offices\, diesel locomotives\, signals\, switches and a timetable but unlike other railway lines\, this one is run only by children. SUMMARY:Guided Tour of the Puskas Football Academy
DESCRIPTION:The Academy is 40 km from Budapest and was founded to encourage talented football players (both male and female). It is situated in Felcsút and was named after the famous Hungarian footballer\, Ferenc Puskás. The Academy is worth visiting because of its spectacular architecture. \n\n\n\nThe architect Imre Malkovecz was one of the most prominent proponents of organic  architecture. As such\, his buildings attempt to work with the natural surroundings rather than triumph over them. \n\n\n\nAfter our tour we plan to go to the nearby gardens for a picnic lunch.The tour is planned for the morning but the departure time will depend on the number of participants and available cars/public transport.For more details see the NAWA members Announcements or contact nawamembership@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Tour of St. Stephen's Hall at Buda Castle
DESCRIPTION:The interior of the hall has a Romanesque design\, but at certain points accommodated Hungarian motifs and style. The architect\, Hauszmann\, used the finest craftsmen in the country at the time to produce a masterpiece of turn-of-the-century Hungarian applied art. The assemblage of masterpieces was much appreciated by the monarch\, Franz Joseph\, who ordered that the interior be displayed at the 1900 Paris World’s Fair. In Paris\, the display gained enormous public and critical acclaim and won several prizes\, including the Grand Prix. The public was also permitted to view the ornate hall in the Palace of Buda Castle when it was completed in 1902. \n\n\n\nDuring the Second World War\, the Palace building suffered significant damage due to bombings and a fire that lasted for weeks. The devastation did not spare the Szent István room as it was completely burned down and its furnishings were destroyed. The hall was not restored and was used among other things\, as a storage room.  \n\n\n\nAs part of the National Hauszmann Program\, the Szent István hall has been restored. Its interior layout\, use of materials\, decoration\, and furniture follow the original Haussmann design using surviving plans\, sketches\, and photographs. The work was carried out by masters from around twenty workshops across the country to recreate the ornate furnishings as accurately as possible using the original materials.  The hall has only been opened to the public since 2021. For more details see the NAWA members Announcements or contact nawamembership@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Henri Matisse - The Color of Ideas
DESCRIPTION:We are planning to visit the National Gallery to see the exhibition before it leaves Budapest. The exhibition based on the masterpieces of the Centre Pompidou – Musée national d’art modern\, Paris is the first show featuring Henri Matisse’s art in Hungary. The selection of more than 150 works guides visitors through all the main periods of the artist’s oeuvre from his Fauve period all the way to his late gouache paper cut-outs.
