SUMMARY:Cooking for Charity
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a charity fundraiser at one of our member’s place\, where we’ll prepare Transylvanian cabbage rolls and enjoy a delicious lunch. \n\n\n\nThe proceeds from the event will go towards providing candies and smiles to the patients of a local hospital as well as the staff working at the institutions we support. The remaining amount will be utilized to buy fruit for the residents of the senior homes. Participants will receive tea\, coffee\, and refreshments upon arrival and will get hands-on experience in making sarmale. The fruit of their labor will be packaged and taken home to be cooked for their families. DESCRIPTION:The residents of one of the seniors’ home we sponsor are among the poorest and most disadvantaged seniors in the government system here in Budapest. They receive small pensions\, have limited social interaction\, and rarely participate in activities outside of those offered to them. Let’s make their winter a little brighter by engaging them in a game of Bingo. Our Bingo games are fun\, with numbers being called out in both Hungarian and English\, and we even engage in a little innocent cheating to ensure every player wins at least a few times. You don’t need to speak Hungarian to participate; simply shadow a few players and help them play to win\, as some of them have cognitive or hearing problems and cannot do it alone. If you’re interested\, please let us know. If you cannot give your time\, please consider buying fruit or baking for the event.  \n\n\n\nCHARITY CLUB – FOCUS ON THE SENIORS \n\n\n\nAs we step into the new year with new hopes and dreams for ourselves and our families\, let’s not forget about those who don’t have the possibility of nurturing such hopes and dreams. In the month of January\, the NAWA Charity Club will focus on the senior homes that we support. We’ll organize activities and Bingo games for the seniors\, offering them the gift of social interaction and small prizes. We hope to see many of you at these events. If you’re unable to volunteer\, there are other ways in which you can help. If you find yourself with surplus chocolates or other sweets\, toiletries\, clothing items\, accessories\, or any other items that you could donate to the seniors we support\, please bring them with you Tuesday\, January 30 to the Senior’s Bingo game. We’ll collect those items and use them as Bingo prizes or directly donate them to those in need.Thank you for your ongoing support and generosity! \n\n\n\nFor more details see the NAWA members Announcements or contact nawamembership@gmail.com

DESCRIPTION:We hope to see you at our next Adopt-A-Granny event\, which celebrates the love and friendship between the children of the orphanage and their “adoptive grandparents” from the senior home that we sponsor. \n\n\n\nThis event will take place on Valentine’s Day\, where NAWA will treat the kids and seniors to lunch. During this fun-filled event\, the children and seniors will color\, write\, and exchange Valentine’s cards\, play trivia and a game of Bingo. To close the event\, the children will have the opportunity to smash a piñata.  \n\n\n\nWe would appreciate your help in pre-cutting the craft materials at the general meeting on February 13th\, donating wrapped candy to fill the piñata\, and baking cookies for the event. \n\n\n\nFor more details see the NAWA members Announcements or contact nawamembership@gmail.com

SUMMARY:Szabo Ervin Library and Coffee & Chat
DESCRIPTION:The Ervin Szabo Library is the most famous library in Budapest. The historical building that houses it looks charming even from the outside. This is the largest network library in Budapest\, so when you walk in\, it looks like an average modern library. However\, we’ll head to the fourth floor to visit the beautiful neo-Baroque palace\, the historical Wenckheim Palace\, which dates back to the 19th century. Each room differs from the other\, ranging from a ballroom to rooms encased in oak wood. The Wenckheim family used to own this palace\, and they were renowned for their sumptuous balls. The library is named after Ervin Szabo\, a sociologist who founded the library network and modelled it after the British public library system. Initially stored inside a temporary schoolhouse\, the library moved into the palace once the city bought it. Today\, it houses over 1.1 million volumes. After the library visit\, we can enjoy a coffee and chat in a nearby café.
