Book Club

We will meet to discuss Martha Hall Kelley’s Lost Roses. 

Several years ago the club read her first novel, which was an adaptation of a WWII era true story about a New York Socialite who helped a group of Ravensbruck survivors from Poland. Kelley has taken this idea and moved it back to WWI with Lost Roses, in which she follows another true story involving women refugees from the Russian Revolution. (If you love this one also she wrote a third set in the US Civil War era). In the grey wintry days of Budapest we will be reading about St Petersburg, Paris and New York in the early 20th C – we should be inspired and transported – and perhaps also grateful for our own relatively peaceful lives in a world where many people still do not have our good fortune.
