Day Trip to Gyor

September 24 @ 9:00 am 2:00 pm

Gyor is the main city of northwest Hungary, positioned halfway between Budapest and Vienna, along one of Central Europe’s important roads. It is the sixth largest city in Hungary and serves as one of the country’s seven main regional centers. The Hungarians took over the town around 900 AD and fortified the deserted Roman fortress. Stephen I, the first king of Hungary, established an episcopate there, and the town received its Hungarian name, Gyor, likely derived from the Old Hungarian personal name Gyor, who may have been the county’s first count. Gyor has been significantly impacted by the challenges and triumphs of Hungary’s history.

We will travel by train, be guided by a member who resides in Gyor, and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.
